Literacy

6-10 week gains - in just one summer!

At Horizons, literacy is an experience designed to spark a lifelong love of learning. From age five, students benefit from individualized and small-group instruction led by caring teachers and on-site Reading Specialists who tailor support to each child’s needs.

Every student’s progress is measured with STAR Assessments at the start and end of the summer, ensuring each child’s growth is seen and celebrated. Reading Specialists work side by side with classroom teachers so students stay supported every step of the way.

At Horizons, students discover the joy of reading in ways that feel new and exciting. Age appropriate, culturally vibrant, and interest-driven books are coupled with group read-alouds, independent reading, and applied reading opportunities throughout the day. Creative projects, theater, and writing prompts help scholars grow as readers and confident learners. It’s a model that turns reading into discovery—and it works. Our youngest students who begin the summer reading below grade level gain an average of 3 months of proficiency in just one summer!
