When she graduated from Horizons at Greens Farms Academy's high school program, Brenda Moreno knew that her connection with Horizons was just beginning. After spending many summers and Saturdays at Horizons as a student, Brenda shares, "My connection to Horizons helped me build a bright future for myself and my community."
Now receiving her Master's degree, a member of Horizons National's Associate Board, a Horizons National donor, and helping to start up and grow new Horizons sites, Brenda hopes to help Horizons continue to reach more students and families. The Horizons National Associate Board (AB), comprised of recent Horizons alums, interns, and volunteers, seeks “to further the mission of Horizons National by providing a continuing sense of community and purpose for Horizons Alumni throughout life.” As a member, Brenda helps to expand our connections to Horizons graduates across the country, engaging them in marketing, communications, and fundraising in support of Horizons programs, including participation at conferences, building partnerships, and funding events.
In 2021, Brenda was an integral member of the support team at Horizons at Albertus Magnus College, a brand new program serving students in the New Haven, CT area. Her expertise as both an educator and a former Horizons student helped Brenda form connections with new students and families, bring the Horizons spirit to an emerging site, and assist in charting a course for success. Brenda explains, "I found my career path as an educator because of Horizons; the organization has enabled many kids to achieve their academic goals while also becoming the best version of themselves. I support Horizons National so Horizons can reach more kids, and expand services for students and families."
Horizons National is forever grateful for and inspired by our incredible alumni like Brenda!
