For over 5 years, Horizons' AmeriCorps VISTA members have brought diverse perspectives, new ideas and strategies, and a passion for service to Horizons sites and Horizons National. Since its inception in 2017, our VISTA program has expanded to include both Summer and Full-Year VISTA Associates, as well as an annual Horizons VISTA Retreat, and extended networking and professional development opportunities both during and after service.
Over this past (2021-22) service year, Horizons' VISTA members have:
- Served at 13 Horizons sites nationwide, and Horizons National
- Brought in over $1.1 million to the Horizons Network in cash resources
- Brought in over $96k in in-kind donations
- Gathered in-person for the first Horizons VISTA Retreat in Atlanta, GA
- Participated in a Horizons VISTA Alumni Panel, where past Horizons VISTAs shared about life after service
We are thrilled to welcome a new cohort of VISTA members across the Network for the 2022-23 service year, including 3 Full-Year VISTA Associates on the Horizons National team:
Amara Eke - Horizons National Data & Operations Team
Amarachukwu Vivian Eke is a young professional with a background in Project and Operations Management. She has worked in the Nonprofit and Philanthropic field for over 5 years, where she combines her skills in research and systems management with her passion in holistic and humanistic policymaking to help bridge the gap of systemic inequalities and access to resources in underserved communities. She’s currently studying Data Analysis, with plans to get her Master’s degree in NeuroScience and Machine Learning Engineering. In her free time, you can find her, dancing like there’s no tomorrow, or competing in Olympic weightlifting and Powerlifting. She has also perfected the secret recipe to the world’s greatest ice-cream and cookie combination!
Adriana Garcia - Horizons National Marketing & Communications Team
Adriana Garcia is a graduate from the University of Tampa with a Bachelor’s degree in Entrepreneurship and minor in Speech. Both in and out of the classroom, she quickly realized her excitement for service and developed a philanthropic record. The past few years she has worked with numerous nonprofit organizations in the Tampa area, and now serves as an AmeriCorps VISTA member. She is excited to spend the next year learning more and utilizing her creativity and passion for storytelling to help strengthen the mission of Horizons National in any way she can.
Ngozia Hunter - Horizons' VISTA Cohort Leader
Ngoziabata Hunter is a former AmeriCorps VISTA with Horizons at Carolina Day School. Combining her passion for education and the nonprofit sector, and her close to ten years in the sector, Ngozia has joined Horizons National to further explore her past roles in direct service and apply them to indirect service opportunities. She firmly believes that not only should students have representation in their classrooms, but they should also have development professionals that represent them in an organization's philanthropic efforts. When she isn't working, Ngozia loves to volunteer with local organizations, travel, and spend time with friends and family.
