Horizons National Staff

Lorna Smith, Chief Executive Officer
Lorna Smith has served as CEO since 2007. Under her leadership, Horizons National has become a vital resource for its affiliates, sustaining a network with strong organizational identity, stability, and consistency. Lorna has shepherded the organization through a period of unprecedented growth and built a national presence for Horizons. She brings market research expertise, extensive client service in several industries, and has co-owned two businesses, both of which experienced substantial growth and enjoyed excellent reputations under her management. Lorna holds a B.A. from Wellesley College and an M.B.A. from Cornell University.  Lorna is a founding board member for the National Network of Schools in Partnership, an organization comprised of public-private partners who share a common goal of expanding educational opportunities for all young people. 

Kim Fairey, Chief Advancement Officer
Ms. Fairey is responsible for Horizons National's expansion efforts.  Kim has extensive professional and community fundraising experience, her career includes banking, management, strategic planning, and professional volunteer management.  Her education includes an AB from Wellesley College; an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business; and a Master’s in Divinity from Union Theological Seminary of New York.

Jose Oromi, Chief Program Officer

Leading the affiliate support efforts at Horizons National, Mr. Oromi brings experience in global and domestic operations and programming, having worked with Save the Children and AmeriCorps, in addition to extensive teaching and community support services.  Prior to joining Horizons National, Mr. Oromi was the executive director of a highly successful Horizons Affiliate for five years.  Mr. Oromi holds his B.A. from the University of Florida.
 

Phaedrel (Faye) Bowman, Data Analyst and Technology Support
Faye is the Data Analyst and Technology Specialist with Horizons National. She manages the data tools used by Horizons affiliates, including the student database, and is responsible for analyzing and reporting program data. She also provides technical support for the National office.  Faye holds a B.A. from Boston University and an M.S. from the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education.

 

Andrea de Azevedo, Director of Development

Andrea raises philanthropic support for Horizons National by engaging donors in a meaningful way. She creates and maintains strong relationships with current and future supporters and is responsible for identifying new funding opportunities and developing concepts and proposals for new foundation, corporate, and individual donors around key priorities. A graduate of Boston College, Andrea holds a J.D. and M.B.A. from Quinnipiac University.  
 

Kelly Mattox, Director of Marketing & Donor Relations 
Kelly works with the Development team to raise awareness and funds for Horizons National.  She oversees donor relations activities and external marketing and communications, including managing the National website and producing marketing and fundraising resources for affiliates.  Kelly received a B.A. in Communications from Jacksonville University.   

 

Elizabeth Reed, Program Manager

Elizabeth provides administrative support to Horizons National affiliates, board members and staff including communication and office management.  She is a specialist in meeting support, conference and travel planning, human resources and finance.  Elizabeth received a B.S. in Communication Disorders with a minor concentration in Spanish from the University of New Hampshire.

Morgan Smith, Resource Coordinator 

Morgan supports the CEO, CAO and staff of Horizons National as an administrator, organizer and editor.  She was a senior level corporate event and project manager until 2002, when she followed her heart into the field of education and the nonprofit sector.  Morgan holds a B.A. in Behavioral Science with a concentration in Leadership and Human Development from Lesley University.
