Horizons at Atlanta
Horizons at Holy Innocents’ Episcopal
School (visit
site)
Atlanta, Georgia
Holy
Innocents acts as our host school by offering its classrooms,
playgrounds, athletic fields and office space in-kind. We began in 1999
with our first kindergarten class of twelve students, nine of which are
still part of Horizons in 2006. Next year we will honor our first
graduating class of eighth graders. Moving forward, we plan to launch a
high school program to continue investing in our students’ futures.
Summer Academic Enrichment Program
Horizons
Summer Curriculum uses hands-on, experiential learning &
project-based activities that make learning fun. Students enjoy classes
in reading, creative writing, math, science, computers, art and music.
Friday Field Trips and regular sports activities add to the fun.
Students learn how to swim, a valuable life skill that builds
self-confidence and enthusiasm for new challenges in and out of the
classroom.
Seven Saturdays
Horizons’
Saturday Programs engage students throughout the school year to support
the academic gains they make during the summer. Sixth graders get help
with homework and projects. Seventh and Eighth graders learn how to run
a small business in an engaging, interactive environment. The Atlanta
Silverbacks’ Players lead a soccer clinic for all middle school
students.
Parenting Connection
The
Parenting Connection increases parents’ awareness of their child’s
educational needs and experiences. It facilitates communication between
Horizons’ parents and the program. Representatives from the Parents’
Council serve on the Horizons’ Board of Directors.
